Cricket Drama Takes New Turn: Thisara Says Shehan Jayasuriya Wanted To Share Hotel Room With Girlfriend During 2018 Dubai Tournament

In an interesting turn of events, Sri Lankan all rounder Thisara Perera has responded to cricketer Shehan Jayasuriya's allegations over Perera's wife's influence in the national cricket team's affairs.

Posting his statement on Facebook, Perera says the tension between Jayasuriya and himself begand during a 2018 cricket tournament in Dubai.

"Jayasuriya, a married man back then, sought permission from the team management to share his hotel room with a girl whom he later married as his second wife.

As the captain of the team at that point, I did not allow him to share his hotel room with a gilrl as only wives and children of the players were permitted in their rooms during the course of the tournament."

"My primary responsibility was to uphold discipline among the members of the team and I was not in a position to accommodate his request."

"Had I allowed him to share his hotel room with the girl, the situation would have been different today and I would have been hero-worshipped by him. but I wanted to do the right thing," Perera said.

However, the Sri Lankan all-rounder made it clear that he had no animosity with Jayasuriya and even went on to express regret if the incident had caused him inconvenience.

It all begand when former Sri Lankan cricketer Shehan Jayasuriya, in an interview with a weekend Sinhala newspaper, highlighted some major rifts among national cricketers in Sri Lanka which also indicated glaring issues in the cricket administration.

Jayasuriya retired from Sri Lanka Cricket recently to pursue a cricketing career in the United States. He is expected to migrate to the US with his newly-married wife.

In the interview, Jayasuriya stated Thisara Perera, a star cricketer, and his wife were instrumental in creating “issues” for him while playing cricket for Sri Lanka.

He said the wife of the star cricketer has told other players to refrain from engaging with him and this appalling behavior made him deeply frustrated.
