Sri Lanka Cricket Hit By Another Crisis: Two Cricketers Chanuka Karunaratne And Binura Fernando Test Positive For COVID19

In another setback for the Sri Lankan cricket team Chamika Karunaratne and Binura Fernando — two players in the ODI squad — have tested positive for COVID19.

The SLC said the Sri Lankan ODI players were preparing for the upcoming tournaments in batches and this would not hamper the ongoing series against England.

Both Karunaratne and Fernando are not members of the Sri Lanka Test cricket squad at the moment. However, measures are in place to trace the contacts of the infected players and perform PCR tests on them.

This comes at a time when Sri Lankan cricket is rocked by an alleged sex scandal. A controversy broke out following a newspaper report claiming that a young Sri Lankan cricketer shared his hotel room with a female cricket official during the first Test match against England. The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has maintained that the media reports in this regard were "scandalous" and "baseless".
