Former JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake said a well-planned social media campaign is underway to sling mud at him over an alleged accident involving a BMW.

"This fake news campaign claims that a vehicle (BMW car) owned by my wife has met with an accident. Some photographs used for this campaign had been taken in another country," he added.

"We don't own a BMW and if we anyone can prove that we have one, we will gift it to them," Ratnayake further stated.

The ex-MP also revealed a number of SLPP-affiliated pages that initiated this fake news campaign. The JVP politician said he had brought the matter to the attention of the SLCERT and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
