SLFP "Disturbed" By Recommendation To Initiate Criminal Action Against Sirisena Over Terror Attacks: Exec. Committee To Meet Today

February 25, 2021

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) is expected to discuss the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCOI) Report on Easter Sunday attacks at the party Executive Commitee meeting.

The Executive Committee of the party is scheduled to meet at 5 PM today in Colombo.

However, it is learnt that the party is deeply disturbed by the findings of the PCOI which has recommended criminal proceedings against former President Maithripala Sirisena, the leader of the SLFP.

"It is still not clear whether this force the SLFP to leave the government. However, there are numerous unresolved issues between the SLPP and the SLFP over various matters. We still don't know how the government intends to proceed with the PCOI report. On the surface, the report seems half-baked and incomplete," a senior SLFP MP said.

SLFP stalwart Mahinda Amaraweera yesterday revealed that the former President was in touch with his legal teams on the content of the report.
