Copyrights Violation Allegation Against Bathiya & Santhush: Singers Say Their Attempt To Reach Amicable Settlement Turned Futile

February 25, 2021

Two popular singers, Bathiya Jayakody and Santhush Weeraman have responded to the allegations of copyrights violations levelled against them by veteran artistes Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne and Dr. Rohana Weerasinghe.

Issuing a statement, the duo said confusion had arisen as the copyrights for the song in question lied with the producer of the movie in which the song was featured. However, they claimed that their attempts to work out an amicable settlement turned futile as the two senior artistes did not engage with him.    Prof. Ariyaratne and Dr. Weerasinghe, a lyricist and a composer, alleged that the two popular singers had used their creations for commercial purposes without any permission.

They stated that a song composed for Jackson Anthony's film 'Address Na' had been used by a company affiliated to Bathiya Jayakody and Santhush Weeraman committing a serious intellectual property offence.
