Former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said a journalist had been abducted, assaulted and threatened with death on Match 10 resembling the pre-2015 era.

Jayasuriya now heads the National Movement for Just Society -— an organisation formed by the late Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera.

The former Speaker said the lack of solidarity among journalists was a worrying sign and it paves way for such assaults on media professionals.

Jayasuriya asserted that the culprits responsible for the atack must be investigated and punished.
