Will PCOI Report On Easter Attacks Lead To Rift In Ruling Camp? SLFP Now Considering Relinquishing Posts In Govt

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party is now considering quitting their posts in the SLPP-led government, informed political sources said.

The move comes in the wake of the recommendations made against SLFP Chairman and former President Maithripala Sirisena in the Presidential Commission of Inquiry report on the Easter Sunday attacks.

The SLFP has already stated that the commission report is "flawed and incomplete" whilst rejecting its recommendaions.

However, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, a key figure of the SLFP, said their continuation in the government would only depend on the will of the party supporters. Although Amaraweera did not attribute the issue to the PCOI report, it was clear that the issue escalated after the recommendations of the commission were made public.

"We will not make a decision to remain in our posts in the government against the will of our supporters," Amaraweera said indicating that the party was reconsidering its position.
