SJB Visits Bribery Commission Again To Urge Authorities To Expedite Investigation Into Rs. 15.9 Billion 'Sugar Scam'

A group from Samagi Jana Balawegaya has visited the Bribery Commission again to urge the authorities to expedite the investigation into Rs. 15.9 billion "Sugar Scam".

Samagi Tharuna Balawegaya Chairman MP Mayantha Dissaanayake, Propaganda Secretary Rasika Jayakody and SJB Homagama Organiser Eranda Weliange visited the Bribery Commission and requested the authorities to expedite the investigation on the complaint they lodged on February 02 considering the severity of the scam. Dissanayake lodged a complaint on the alleged scam with the Bribery Commission six weeks ago.

They also added that the investigation must happen with zero political interference and the main opposition party would keep following up on the progress of the investigation.

Speaking to media after visiting the Bribery Commission, MP Mayantha Dissanayake said they had doubts whether certain powerful hands in the government were attempting to brush the alleged scam under the carpet.

"This large scale act of corruption is much more severe than the bond scam. This has to be investigated and perpetrators must be brought to justice. We will not let anyone sabotage the bribery investigation into this large scale act of corruption," he said.
