Sirisena Meets Mahanayaka Theras In Kandy As Party Considers Option Of Moving Away From SLPP-led Alliance

The Chief prelates of the Malwatte and Asgiriya chapters have told former President Maithripala Sirisena to take measures to strengthen the SLFP aiming to form a government under the leadership of the party.

Sirisena was in Kandy yesterday to kick-start the reorganising programme of the party. The former President and other leaders of the party obtained blessings from the Sri Dalada Maligawa and had discussions with a number of party activists in the Kandy area.

The former President has briefed the Mahanayake Theras on the way forward of the party and its reorganisation plan.

The SLFP is currently considering the option of contesting the upcoming Provincial Council election as a separate party moving away from its current alliance with the SLPP.

This comes against the backdrop of serious concerns raised by SLFP MPs that they are being ill-treated by the SLPP leaders.
