"Majority Of New COVID19 Patients Are Those Who Travelled To Sri Pada, Kataragama, N'Eliya And Southern Coast Before New Year"

Initial Iinvestigations by health authorities have revealed that the majority of the new COVID19 cases of are from those who travelled to Sripada, Kataragama, Nuwara Eliya and the Southern coast before the new year holidays.

Sri Lanka has seen an unprecedented hike in COVID19 cases in the recent past. For the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic, the daily COVID19 cases surpassed 1000 yesterday.

Health authorities predict that the cases will increase further as many people were seen travelling to the same tourist hotspots after the Sinhala - Tamil New Year too.

State Minister Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle has stated that the ICU capacities in the government hospitals are filling up due to the sudden spike in COVID19 cases.
