Finance Ministry Taking Swift Measures To Import Vehicles For New MPs: Vehicles To Be Issued On Payment-Basis

The Finance Ministry, under the instructions of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. is taking measues to provide new MPs with vehicle on payment-basis.

New Members of Parliament will be provided with new SUVs as a way of facilitating them to supervise development activities assigned to them at the district and divisional levels.

The Government has suspended the issuance of duty free vehicle import licenses and the Ministry of Finance states that vehicle import restrictions will be maintained to protect financial stability.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has also written a separate letter to the President highlighting the vehicle requirements of new MPs.

in addition, 50 ambulances, 50 water bowsers and 50 double cabs will be purchased.
