"Police Requested Magistrate To Remand Chandimal And Piumi Hansamali Till June 11": Ajith Rohana Explains Background

Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the police, in its B report, requested the Magistrate to remand beautician Chandimal Jayasinghe and actress Piumi Hansamali until June 11 for violating lockdown orders.

Both of them were arrested yesterday for hosting a birthday party at a five-star hotel in Colombo in violation of the islandwide lockdown.

Rohana made this remark responding to questions on how they were released on bail in less than an hour. There were speculations on social media that the police did not object to granting bail to the two suspects.

The Police Media Spokesman said the Magistrate decided to grant bail to Jayasinghe and Hansamali considering the facts presented by lawyers defending them.
