Former CID Director Shani Abeysekera has written a letter to IGP Chandana Wickremaratne requesting security for him and his residence.

In the letter, Abeysekera has stated that certain suspects in cases handled by him have been released on bail and this his resulted in a threat to his personal safety.

Abeysekera was recently released on bail following a bail application filed by him. He handled a number of high-profile investigations into criminal activities.

In the letter, Abeyskeera has further stated that he has handed over his official weapon to the Borella police station.

Abeysekera's security was removed in Nivmeber, 2019 after he was transferred out as the head of the CID.
