Colombo Chief Magistrate Releases Former MP Sarana Gunawardena From 08 Cases Filed By Bribery Commission

Former MP Sarana Gunawardena was acquitted by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today (July 30) from all bribery cases filed against him.

Gunawardena is a politician affiliated with the ruling camp who has faced multiple investigations in the past over a number of charges.

When the case was taken up today, Assistant Director-General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) Asitha Anthony informed that the written approval of the three commissioners were not been obtained when the cases were filed by the Commission.

Considering the submissions filed by the CIABOC official, the court released Gunawardena from 08 bribery cases filed against him by the Commission.
