Godahewa Blames Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa For Not Taking Action On Mervyn Silva Over "Rupavahini Incident"

September 16, 2021

State Minister Nalaka Godahewa today blamed former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's government for not taking action when former Minister launched an attack on Rupavahini workers in 2007.

The incident took place when Mervyn Silva was a prominent figure in Rajapaksa's government. A commotion broke out when Silva stormed in the SLRC premises and the former Minister came under physcial assault from Rupavahini workers.

"When a politician broke into a TV station years back, Gvt didn’t take any action and it didn’t go well with the people. But today we are happy to see President and PM responding fast when such unacceptable incidents take place.Politicians should not feel they are above the law," Godahewa tweeted earlier today.

When the incident took place, Silva was a close ally of the then President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family.

The tweet was aimed at praising Lohan Ratwatte who stepped down from his ministerial position after his violent behavior with inmates at the Anuradhapura prison.
