September 22, 2021

A special meeting between Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the leaders of the coalition partners representing the government in Parliament will be held in Parliament tomorrow (22) at noon.

The Prime Minister's Office today (21) instructed the leaders of the government and its partner parties to participate in the discussion.

According to government sources, the current political situation and the decision to transfer 40 percent of the Yugadanavi power plant to an American company are likely to be discussed at the meeting.

Ten government allies have already objected to the decision to transfer 40 percent of the Yugadanavi power plant to the proposed agreement with the American company.

Accordingly, a group of party leaders met the former President at the residence of former President Maithripala Sirisena at Mahagamasekera Mawatha in Colombo today and discussed the matter.

As President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is out of the country to address the UN General Assembly, the party leaders decided to meet the Prime Minister to discuss the matter, a party leader said.
