Milk Powder Crisis:16 Containers Containing 360 MTs Of Milk Power Stuck At Colombo Port Due To Shortage Of Dollars

Sixteen containers containing 360 metric tons of imported milk powder have been stranded at the Port of Colombo due to a shortage of dollars in commercial banks, said Lakshman Weerasuriya, CEO of Ariya Dairy, a member of the Milk Powder Importers Association.

It is further stated that this stock of milk worth around Rs. 30 million is likely to expire.

This comes in the wake of a major milk powder shortage in the local market. The government has restricted the importation of milk powder due to the foreign exchange crisis in the country.

The Milk Exporters' Association has requested the Prime Minister to intervene to release the stock of milk powder
