Chairman of Lyca Mobile and Swarnavahini in Sri Lanka Subhaskaran Allirajah has purchased the Jaffna franchine at the Lanka Premier League (LPL) T20 cricket tournament.

Subhaskaran came under severe criticism from some leading fugures of the current ruling party when he purchased the TV station 'Swarnavahini'.Addressing a press conference in Colombo, Wimal Weerawansa, now a senior Cabinet Minister, described Subhaskaran as a "Tiger" who laundered money for the LTTE. Weeranwasa also threatened to pursue legal action against anyone who supported Subhaskaran's business activities in Sri Lanka.

However, the Sri Lankan-born businessman is now an essential part of Sri Lanka's most prominent T20 League, a brainchild of Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa.

Subhaskaran is the founder and chairman of Lycamobile, a telecommunications company. He is also a producer of Tamil films through his entertainment subsidiary Lyca Productions, based in Chennai, India.

He received a gold award for Best Overall Enterprise in 2010 at the Asian Achievers Award ceremony for the impact he has made on the Asian community in the UK
