Former CAA Director Concerned About 'White Van' Near House: Has Also Received Death Threats But Says No Action By Police

The former Executive Director of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) Thushan Gunawardena has filed a complaint with the Police over an incident in which a group of people who arrived in a white van had stopped outside his house and checked his house number. The incident has happened a month since he received death threats, but the former CAA Executive Director says that despite filing a complaint with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) regarding this, the Police is yet to obtain a statement from him. Gunawardene is under fire presently for being in opposition to a number of malpractices underway at the CAA. It was his revelations that led to the media coming to know about the 'garlic scam' with regards to which a number of people have now been arrested. Gunwardene stepped down as CAA Exectuve Director in September 2021.
