Champika Says CID Has Tapped His Telephone During The Period Between 2018-19: Urges Inquiry Into Violation Of Privacy

SJB MP Patali Champika Ranawak stated in Parliament today (21) that the officers of the CID had tapped his telephone and listened to his telephone conversations during the period between 2018-19.

By doing so, he said, the CID had violated his personal rights as well as his parliamentary privileges. Ranawaka said the CID could not tap anyone's telephone conversations without the permission of a Magistrate.

Ranawaka said that the telephone service providers had also violated his privileges by handing over the telephone conversations to the CID.

While adding that it was an offense punishable before the Supreme Court, Ranawaka requested the Speaker to conduct an investigation into this blatant violation of parliamentary privileges.

He also requested the Speaker to call for a report from the Attorney General and submit the report to Parliament.
