Chief Inspector Kanchana Samarakoon Becomes Second Female OIC In Sri Lanka's Police Service

Chief Inspector of Police, S.K. M. Kanchana Samarakoon is scheduled to assume duties tomorrow (11) as the OIC of the Nalla Police Station in Gampaha.

She will be the second female police officer to be appointed as an OIC at a police station in Sri Lanka.

The police station will be opened by the Minister of Public Security, Retired Rear Admiral Dr. Sarath Weerasekera tomorrow (11) at 4.00 pm and she will assume duties.

Kanchana Samarakoon joined the Sri Lanka Police in 1997 as a Sub Inspector of Women and has served in a number of divisions including Chilaw, Vavuniya, Gampaha, Mirigama, Nittambuwa and the CID.

Kanchana Samarakoon's husband is also a Chief Inspector attached to the Ministerial Security Division of the Sri Lanka Police and is a mother of two. Born in Hemmatagama, she is an alumnus of Kegalle Balika Maha Vidyalaya.
