BOI Has Recruited Senior Officials At Exorbitant Salary While Economy Is Battered By Severe Hardships: COPE

The Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) says that the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) has approved the recruitment of 29 officers and seven of them have already been recruited at high salaries.

Two persons have been recruited as Deputy Directors General and these two will be paid Rs. 170,000 per month.

In addition, four executive directors have been paid Rs.3.1 million and a senior deputy director has been recruited with a monthly salary of Rs. 820,000.

Meanwhile, the COPE Committee yesterday discussed at length an incident in which a former Director General of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka was recruited as an advisor and was paid over Rs. 10 million during 2020-2021.

It was further revealed that the salary paid to her in one month was one million rupees.

The Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises met under the chairmanship of Prof. Charitha Herath at the Parliament Complex. This information was revealed at that meeting.

Prof. Charitha Herath has stated in this committee that this kind of payment of salaries is a serious problem given the severe economic problems in the country and that immediate action should be taken in this regard.
