December 01, 2021

CEB Chairman M.M.C. Ferdinando has lodged a complaint with the Ministry of Defense and the Police seeking an inquiry into the power outages that occurred in several parts of the country on Monday.

The Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) told the media that he had taken this action due to a number of complaints that the power outage which lasted for more than an hour and a half in many parts of the island was an act of sabotage by an individual or a group.

He further stated that he, as a government official, had lodged the complaint with the Ministry of Defense and the Police as he felt that such a power outage for hours would pose a threat to the national security of the country.

A power outage in a quarter of the island occurred at around 8 pm on the 29th due to a breakdown in the transmission line from Kotmale to Biyagama and it was restored at around 9.30 pm.
