December 12, 2021

Co-Cabinet Spokesman Dr.Ramesn Pathirana admitted that there were serious shortcomings in the regulations of the gas industry in Sri Lanka.

Speaking to reporters after an event in Seenigama, Pathirana said such issues were prevalent in the country for nearly 30 years and the current government was not solely responsible.

Pathirana made this remark in the wake of a number of gas-related explosions across the country.

"I acknowledge that there were shortcomings in the regulation of the gas industry in the country. We need to humbly admit our mistakes. There was a lack of legal framework regarding gas consumption.

However, necessary arrangements are being made to ensure the safety of gas consumers, especially through a strong legal framework," he added.
