December 13, 2021

If the sale of liquor is banned during the Vesak festival, it should also be banned during Christmas, said the Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Malcolm Ranjith today (12).

"Religion is not about partying or drinking and wasting lives," he said.

Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo said this while participating in a service held at a church in the Bollete area in Ganemulla today.

The cardinal said he had seen in the press a request to allow the sale of liquor on Christmas day in hotels approved by the Ministry of Tourism, and questioned whether it was a "vision of prosperity" to allow alcohol to destroy lives on Christmas day.

We should not be the pawns of political forces or leaders. The philosophy we teach is even higher. ” Said the Cardinal.
