State Minister and SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara said that he too believed that it was appropriate to seek the assistance of the International Monetary Fund at this time.

The Minister of State stated this while expressing his views to the media.

"I think we need to work with the IMF as an alternative at this time. Other countries seem to be less supportive of us, so I personally believe we need to talk to the International Monetary Fund and move forward," he added.

However, some stakeholders of the government have vehemently opposed to seeking assistance of the IMF.
