Catholic Priest At Katuwapitiya Church Breaks Down In Court While Recalling Events During Easter Sunday Attack

December 14, 2021

Father Anton Sudarshana Sameera Rodrigo, who was officiating at the St. Anthony's Church, Katuwapitiya, at the time of the Easter Sunday attack, could not answer the questions during the trial due to an emotional breakdown caused by the trauma of the event.

He was responding to a query from Father Anton Sudarshana Sameera Rodrigo, who testified on behalf of the prosecution at the trial against former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando.

When the Deputy Solicitor General Sudharshana Silva, who appeared for the complainant, inquired as to how many people had died in the incident, the bench directed him not to recall the incident.

Addressing the court, Judge Aditya Patabendi pointed out that there is no point in recalling traumatic events that a person tries to forget.

Father Anton Sudarshana Sameera Rodrigo stressed that neither the police nor any security personnel had informed him or His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith that there was information about an impending attack on Catholic churches on Easter Friday.
