Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, who came under severe criticism and ridicule for his verbose tweets loaded with high-flown language, has delegated the job to a third party, sources close to him said.

Premadasa's new Twitter manager has done a remarkable job in the past few days projecting Premadasa as a more "relatable person" to the Twitter community.

"Wake up and smell the Pol Sambol" - a line the new Twitter Manager gained instant momentum on social media with many using it as a hashtag.

"Earlier, Premadasa drafted his own tweets and shared with his team to be posted on Twitter. Most of the tweets which turned into memes were drafted by Premadasa. I think he has done the right thing by assigning the job to a third party," a source familiar with the matter said.

The source also added that a number of his close associates had pointed out to the Opposition Leader that the JVP and its leader, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, were gaining excellent traction on social media and a different strategy was needed to connect with the middle class.

"The new arrangement for Twitter is a result of these regular warning signals. It has worked so far," a source close to Premadasa further added.
