Government Decides To Close Down Sri Lankan Embassy In Kabul Following Collapse Of Legitimate Government

The government has decided to close the Sri Lankan embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.

The government has made this decision in view of the sudden collapse of the legitimate government in Afghanistan and the precarious political situation that has arisen since the Taliban captured the capital Kabul.

Following the Taliban's capture of Kabul, the Sri Lankan ambassador to Kabul returned to Sri Lanka on personal leave, leaving the embassy inactive.

Accordingly, Foreign Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris has recommended the closure of the embassy in Kabul.
