Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake Likely To Receive Special Presidential Pardon Tomorrow?

February 03, 2022

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa expressed confidence that former MP Ranjan Ramanayake would be released from prison tomorrow under a special presidential pardon.

Premadasa visited Ramanayake at the prison premises this morning.

However, no official statement has been made by the government authorities in this regard. Businessman Nissanka Senadhipathy, a close associate of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, recently held a meeting with a group of artists on securing presidential pardon for Ramanayake.

The former MP has been convicted for contempt of court. He is currently serving a four-year imprisonment.
