Cabinet Approves Memorandum Severely Restricting Use Of Electricity And Fuel In All Govt. Institutions

The government has decided to severely limit the use of electricity and fuel in all government institutions in the face of the dollar shortage.

A Cabinet Memorandum submitted by the Minister of Public Services, Provincial Councils and Local Government Janaka Bandara Tennakoon has been approved by the Cabinet.

It is also proposed to suspend the supply of fuel in excess of the current supply to official vehicles owned by Ministers, MPs and government officials.

It has directed that the officers of the Outer Provinces be restricted from summoning to the Head Offices in Colombo for meetings and discussions, and that they be summoned only when absolutely necessary and that the whole day be used for several meetings on such summoning days.

It also advises that discussions and meetings be held using zoom technology whenever possible.

It has also been advised that if outstation officers need to come to Colombo for essential duties, a team should be called in a single vehicle instead of using individual officers.
