SEE LETTER: Nimal Lansa Resigns From State Minister Portfolio Citing "Severe Economic Hardships" Faced By People

State Minister for Rural Roads and Infrastructure Nimal Lansa has resigned from his ministerial portfolio.

In his letter of resignation, Lansa said he resigned from the post due to certain issues which "hampered" his work as a state minister. He recently had a heated verbal exchange with State Minister Sanath Nishantha over some rural ingrastructure projects in the Puttalam district.

Lansa said those issues had not been resolved although he brought them to the President several times.

He has also stated that his "conscience" does not allow him to continue as a State Minister while the public is stating severe difficulties due to the current economic crisis.
