Basil Resigns From Parliament: Says He Harbors Hatred Against None

Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa said he would step down from his parliamentary seat.

Speaking at a media briefing earlier today, Rajapaksa said he had already sent his letter of resignation to Parliament.

Addressing the press conference, Rajapaksa said he harbored hatred and animosity against none.

Rajapaksa’s resignation comes ahead of the 21st amendment to the Constitution which proposes to disqualify dual citizens from serving as MPs in Parliament.

Rajapaksa is largely perceived as one of the few people responsible for the economic calamity faced by Sri Lanka.
