Lights out for Rupavahini over Rs. 7 million unpaid electricity bill

The Ceylon Electricity Board has taken measures to suspend the electricity supply to the Rupavahini National Television Corporation yesterday afternoon due to non-payment of an electricity bill of around Rs. 7 million.

It is reported that the authorities have taken measures to broadcast with the help of generators, and the continued operation of channels including has become problematic as a result of the blackout.

The corporation had failed to pay its electricity bills for a number of months with the bill accumulating to Rs. 9 million. It is said to have paid Rs. 2 million recently prior to the CEB's decision to halt its services to the corporation.
