India to repatriate released Rajiv Ghandi killers to Sri Lanka

The Hindustan Times reports that the Tamil Nadu authorities have announced that four Sri Lankans among the six acquitted in connection with the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi will be repatriated to Sri Lanka.

The Governor of Trichy, Praveen Kumar, has stated that the four Sri Lankans were taken to a refugee camp in Trichy after their release.

Praveen Kumar was quoted as saying that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been informed about this and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already asked the Sri Lankan Embassy to confirm their citizenship status.

He has stated that the Indian authorities are waiting for the Sri Lanka High Comission’s reply to make a decision about these four persons.
