Electricity meter reader attacked by disgruntled customer over bill

An electricity meter reader has been attacked by a disgruntled customer over an increased electricity bill in the Mahakumbukkadawala area. The person had attacked the reader with clubs and other weapons when he was issuing bills near the Mahakumbukkadawala Galkuliya Temple. He had suffered serious injuries and broke bones as a result. The reader is attached to the Chilaw engineer’s office.

The attack had taken place on 14 January. The attacker is a carpenter and attacked the reader claiming the bill has increased this month. Following the attack, he had blocked the meter reader from leaving the location. The Police had to be summoned to take the reader to the hospital. The CEB had stopped the supply of power to the area in protest against the attack.

The suspect has been arrested and presented before the courts today.
