The Samagi Jana Balawegaya party has suspended the party membership of MP A.H.M. Fowzie.

This decision was made during the working committee meeting of the party on May 8th. The reason behind the suspension was Fowzie's vote in favor of the International Monetary Fund proposal, which went against the party's stance.

During the meeting, the party also decided to refer the matter to its disciplinary board. It is unclear what actions the disciplinary board will take against the MP.

Fowzie was elected as a Member of Parliament after Mujibur Rahman resigned from his position. Rahman resigned to contest the Colombo Mayor election under the Samagi Jana Balawegaya party.
