Close Race In Badulla Postal Votes As UPFA Wins By Thin Margin

September 21, 2014

The 2014 Uva Provincial Council Elections are getting more interesting with indication of a close race in Badulla District.

The postal vote result of the district released a short while ago indicates a serious swing to the UNP as well as the JVP. While UPFA won the Postal Votes with 8,810 votes (46.52%) it is a considerable decrease of vote percentage of 80.54% in 2009.

The UNP has polled 7,274 votes at 38.41%. JVP polled 2,087 votes at 11.02%. In 2009, even the UNP had managed just 2228 votes.

The Democratic Party has received 517 votes at 2.73%.

A clear under-performer has been the National Freedom Front of Wimal Weerawansa, which has managed to attract just 159 postal votes, which is below 1% of the total valid votes.
