UPFA To Form Uva Provincial Administration With A Majority Of Four Seats

The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) secured the power of the Uva Provincial Council for the next four years with a majority of four seats.

The UPFA obtained 17 seats from Badulla amd  Moneragala Districts while the UNP, the main opposition party, managed to get 13 seats. The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna obtained two more seats adding to the strength of the opposition. The UPFA also received two bonus seats which allowed them to form the Provincial Administration with a majority of four seats.

The UPFA obtained 349906 votes from the two districts while the UVP received 274773 votes. The total number of votes achieved by the JVP stands at 35585.

The UNP managed to win the District of Badulla with a majority of 11348 votes.

The National Freedom Front led by Minister Wimal Weerawansa contested separately for the Badulla District, but failed to secure a seat from the district. Democratic Party too - led by former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka – failed to win a seat from the Uva province.
