Nimal Siripala Expresses Doubts If Former Uva PC Has Made Mistakes

September 21, 2014

Irrigation and Water Resource Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has stated that the newly elected Uva Provincial Council should be even more committed to serving people, correcting any shortcomings that could have been there in the last administration.

While the UPFA retained the power in the Provincial Council, its votes share declined alarmingly and the UNP and the JVP made considerable advancement.

The UPFA had 25 seats in the earlier PC and its ally the Up Country People’s Front also had one seat. UNP had only 7 and JVP 1. However, in the newly elected council, UNP has 13 seats and JVP 2. UPFA retains only 19 seats.

Nimal Siripala de Silva has told media that the number of seats won by the UPFA is enough to form a stable government in the council. Therefore, he has expressed confidence that the new administration will be able to serve the people effectively.

He has also thanked the people who had voted for the UPFA
