ITAK Denounces Separate State Claim Before Supreme Court

The Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) today affirmed Supreme Court that the neither the ITAK nor the TNA can be said to have as it aims the establishment of a separate state within Sri Lanka.

Filing an affidavit before Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice Mohan Peries, Justices Rohini Marasinghe and Chandra Ekanayake, ITAK president Mavai Senathirajah further stated that ITAK’s position pertaining to a federal solution within a united Sri Lanka has also been consistently articulated publicly on several occasions by the TNA and its leaders.

This was transpired before Court sequel to six petitions filed by Galage Don Punyawardana, Gunadasa Amarasekera, U. Abeykoon, Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thera, U.K. Anura and Ravi Kumar stating that the objective of ITAK and TNA was to form a separate state in Sri Lanka as mentioned in their election manifesto released prior to Northern provincial Council election.
