The Government Pharmacists Association has raised an alarm over a significant shortage of pharmacists in the country’s medical system. According to the association’s chairman, Thushara Ranadeva, the country currently lacks about 2,000 pharmacists, falling short of the 4,000 needed for adequate healthcare provision.
Ranadeva highlighted the essential role pharmacists play in dispensing medications and ensuring effective patient care. He expressed concerns about a looming health sector crisis if the shortage persists, noting that the current number of pharmacists is not proportionate to the number of hospitals nationwide.
