Thamilselvan's Widow Refutes 'White Flag' Story

September 25, 2014

Sasirekha, the widow of S.P. Thamilselvan, former Leader of the LTTE Political Wing, has said that the “white flag story” related to the last phase of the war in Sri Lanka is a pure fabrication.

It was claimed that certain LTTE leaders came with white flags raised to surrender to the Sri Lanka Army but the army had just shot them regardless.

However, Sasirekha, has reportedly said in Paris that LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran never allowed any leader of the movement to surrender to the army.

The LTTE supporters overseas have been unsettled by Sasirekha’s comments and reportedly have asked her to retract the statement, which she has refused.

Sri Lanka has been accused of committing war crimes basically based on this “white flag” story, which also made headlines in Sri Lanka during the 2010 Presidential campaign.
