The “Lawyers for a Just Society” is planning to launch a campaign to create awareness among the public on the illegality of President Mahinda Rajapaksa contesting for the Presidential Election a third time.

The organization also plans to hold an alternative “people’s tribunal” to look into the issue of the legitimacy of President Rajapaksa’s candidature.

Attorney at Law Shiral Lakthilaka, a representative of the organization stated that it will hear the opinions expressed at the people’s tribunals and prepare a legal document based on the opinion. The document will specifically focus on the legality of President Rajapaksa’s candidature according to the 18th Amendment.

Lakthilaka said that the first of public seminars on the issue will be held on the 29th of this month at the Organization of Professional Associations auditorium. The "Lawyers for a Just Society" will also organize a protest march within the next month.
