Jayalalithaa Found Guilty Of Corruption

September 27, 2014

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Jeyaram has been convicted guilty under Prevention of Corruption Act for possessing unaccounted assets.

This is the culmination of an 18 year old process. In 1996, Dr. Subramanian Swamy filed a case against Jayalalithaa against misappropriation of assets. In 1997, the court filed charge sheets against Jayalalithaa and her friend Sasikala, Jayalalithaa's now disowned foster son V.N. Sudhakaran and sister-in-law of Sasikala, J. Ilavarasi.

Reportedly, all four have been found guilty when the verdict was given at Bangalore. The case was transferred to that city recently at Jayalalithaa’s request.

Jayalalithaa will lose her seat in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Therefore, she will lose the Chief Minister position as well. Sentencing can be expected at any moment. The Prosecution has requested maximum possible term of seven years.
