NEC Informs Political Parties to Appoint Representatives for Polling and Vote Counting Centres

November 11, 2024

The National Election Commission (NEC) has issued a reminder to political parties regarding the appointment of representatives to be stationed at vote counting centers for the upcoming election.

RMAL Ratnayake, Chairman of the NEC, said that each party may appoint up to seven representatives for the vote counting process. Specifically, five representatives should be assigned to a regular vote-counting center, while two should be designated for postal vote-counting centers.

He noted that political parties should not delay these appointments and urged them to submit the necessary documents in advance to ensure smooth access to the vote counting premises.

Additionally, the NEC Chairman clarified that each party or independent group can appoint two representatives per polling station. These representatives will only be allowed entry if they possess a letter signed by an authorized official.

The Commission has called on all parties to ensure that these documents are prepared ahead of time to avoid any last-minute complications.
