Sanath Nishantha’s State Residence Yet to Be Returned

November 12, 2024

The State residence allocated to the late Sanath Nishantha, former State Minister, has not yet been returned to the authorities.

Nishantha, who passed away on 25 January 2024 following an accident on the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway, had been occupying the residence prior to his passing.

Following President Anura Kumara Dissanayake's election on 21 September, the interim government issued instructions for all official residences held by former ministers, state ministers, and MPs to be returned to the State.

To date, 27 State residences have been successfully returned, with Nishantha’s residence still pending. Reports indicate that electricity bills and rent associated with his residence have not been fully settled either and as a results both electricity and water to the residence have been disconnected.
