Fonseka Expresses Disappointment Over Inability To Field A Common Candidate

Sri Lanka Democratic Party Leader Sarath Fonseka says it is disappointing that the political partiers of the opposition have failed to find a common candidate who can pose a significant threat to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the next Presidential election.

Speaking at a conference in Colombo the Democratic Party Leader said that some Political Parties have chosen their candidates in order to fulfil their personal agendas.

“It is the sole responsibility of all opposition parties to bring forth a common candidate who can pose a serious challenge to President Mahinda Rajapaksa. But so far they have not been able to fulfil that task”, Fonseka said.

Sarath Fonseka maintained that all the parties should put away their differences and work in unity to pose a strong competition to the government party.

“Sri Lanka Democratic Party is deeply saddened by this futile efforts to choose a candidate for the presidential election”, he said.

At a gathering in Hali Ela which was held before the Uva Provincial Council Election 2014, The Democratic Party Leader expressed his support to the United National Party (UNP) and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and requested both parties to discard their policy differences in order to build up a healthy opposition against the government.
