36 Fishermen Released By SL Reach India

Thirty-six fishermen from Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, who were part of the 76 arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in different batches and ordered to be released by a Lankan court recently, arrived in Rameswaram today.

According to Indian media the fishermen, who were arrested when they were fishing near Katchatheevu on September 9 and 11, were handed over to Coast Guard personnel at 4.00pm today at the International Maritime boundary line.

Seventy-six Tamil Nadu fishermen, who were arrested on different dates and from different places, were ordered to be released by a Lankan court on September 30, Tamil Nadu Police ‘Q’ Branch Inspector Kennedy has told Indian media. He has also added that the remaining fishermen are expected to be in Tamil Nadu within a day or two.
