A panel discussion themed 'Why we need an alternative government' organized by the Colombo Chapter of the UNP Young Professionals' Organization (YPO) will be held on Wednesday (October 15) at New Town Hall, Colombo 7 from 5.30 pm onwards.
The panelist for the discussion will comprise of Chandra Jayaratne (former Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce), Lal Wijenaike (Head of Rule of Law Committee of the Sri Lanka Bar Association), UNP Parliamentarians EranWickramaratne and Dr. Harsha De Silva.
The eminent team of panelists will be discussing the challenges Sri Lanka is currently facing within the local and international sphere and why an alternative government would be essential for a brighter future. Some of the key areas that are to be discussed will be on Sri Lanka's economic, foreign and defence policies. Issues related to corruption, nepotism, peace building and rule of law will also be addressed at the discussion.
Western Provincial Councilor and Chairman of the UNP YPO, HarshanaRajakaruna said that this is an initiative to bring in young professionals together on a common platform to find answers to key political issues that are an impediment to development of the country.
"We must realize that law and order, democracy, human rights and media freedom have gradually eroded and the youth of this country will have to face the brunt if the prevailing political climate is to continue. It is of utmost importance that we take the initiative and make a difference for our future and to play an active role as young professionals in order to once again empower our nation,"Rajakaruna said.
